Top 10 Nintendo 3DS Games (Revised)

About a year ago, I posted a Top 10 list of Nintendo 3DS retail games; at that point it was already difficult to narrow my scope down to only ten 3DS games.

It wasn’t long after the list was originally posted that some of the highest-profile Nintendo 3DS games of 2013 finally launched. The task of picking and choosing the best titles became far more challenging toward the end of the year, when I started thinking about revising my original Top 10 list.

Admittedly, 2014 has been slightly less consistent for 3DS games, but there have still been a few excellent new releases. Indeed, the library of “must-own” 3DS titles continues to expand.

With all of that in mind, check out the ‘revised’ Top 10 list after the break – there are several newer titles that earned a rightful place among the elites of the Nintendo 3DS.

Top 6 Most-Wanted Hoenn Mega Evolutions

This November, Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire will revisit the Hoenn region and the Third Generation Pokemon games, Ruby & Sapphire.

We already know that there will be new Mega Evolutions; specifically new forms of Sceptile, Swampert, and Diancie have been revealed. There will also be some kind of “Ancient Devolution” form of the legendary monsters Groudon and Kyogre, but further details are unknown.

Granted, there were several “Megas” for Hoenn-based Pokemon introduced in Pokemon X & Y - Manectric, Mawile, and Blaziken to name a few – but I would like to see more in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Keep reading after the jump for my short list of most-wanted Mega Evolutions based in the Hoenn area, complete with some nifty / hilarious “Fakemon” results, courtesy of Google Image Search. Continue reading

Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire – New Starter Mega Evolutions Revealed

The latest issue of CoroCoro magazine has revealed that all three starter Pokemon in the upcoming Pokemon Omega Ruby & Pokemon Alpha Sapphire will have “Mega Evolutions”.

Mega Blaziken was introduced in Pokemon X & Y, so that’s nothing new – but scans of the magazine (seen above) show images of Mega Swampert and Mega Sceptile, as well as Mega Diancie, all of which look considerably impressive. More details after the break.  Continue reading

Blog – Pokemon X & Y Post-Mortem; Getting Back On Track

It has been a few weeks since I last posted anything on 3DStination.com; I apologize for the lack of updates and news, especially if you are a frequent visitor to the site.

Getting back on track has been pretty difficult over the past few weeks – I was without an Internet connection for a few days, not to mention I was spending almost every waking moment of free time playing Pokemon Y. The extended absence was unexpected, but I was looking forward to launch day all year, and I just couldn’t help myself.

Pokemon X Y - Banner 4

After passing the 100-hour mark, I have decided to take a bit of a break and address other matters – such as returning to regular updates on 3DStination.com. I have missed out on some big news in the downtime; it kills me not to go back and publish some of the articles I think are the most important, but I think it works out better to move forward and get back to my daily routine starting on Monday.

That being said, I will have a full review for Pokemon X & Y posted sometime this afternoon. I am looking forward to getting that finished and moving onto the rest of what 2013 has to offer (Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds), not to mention getting my “Best of 2013″ article started.

Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate - BannerIn other news, I have been playing through Batman: Arkham Origins BlackgateI plan to have that review posted pretty soon, in addition to the Pokemon review. I wish I could say I was as enthusiastic about that one; unfortunately the game just didn’t stack up as well as I hoped when I wrote about my most anticipated 3DS games of the year.

I do not want to ruin anything, but if you are on the fence about picking it up, you should know that it plays more like a handheld Batman: Arkham game with “Metroidvania” influences, not so much the straight-up Metroid/Castlevania clone that was originally being teased. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fatebut I will get to that in the full review.

6 New Pokemon I Can’t Wait to Catch in Pokemon X & Y

The worldwide launch of Pokemon X & Pokemon Y is upon us; at midnight tonight I will finally be getting my hands on my very own copy of Pokemon Y and jumping right into the sixth generation of the series. I do not plan on sleeping much over the next few days, as there are greater things to do – like playing my most-anticipated game of 2013, bar none.

Just before we all get into our individual adventures in the Kalos Region, I would like to share some of the Pokemon I am the most excited to catch and use in battle in X & Y – these are not necessarily the creatures that I think will be the strongest for competitive play, but they are definitely personal favorites that I am thrilled to see in the game. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! If you do not want to spoil any of the new Pokemon for yourself, do not continue reading after the break!

Pokemon X & Y – CoroCoro Officially Reveals Starter Evolutions, New Mega Pokemon

Since this is not officially considered a “leak”, I decided to go ahead and post it – the Japanese magazine CoroCoro’s most recent issue officially revealed a few new Mega Evolutions and the final forms of the Kalos Region starter Pokemon. To avoid blatantly spoiling too much, you can find the images from the magazine after the break.

Blog – On The Home Stretch to Pokemon X & Y

The launch of Pokemon X & Pokemon Y is just a few days away, and I am beyond thrilled – that should be obvious to anyone who has visited the site frequently.

That being said, after closely covering any and all news (including a few pre-release leaks) related to X & Y for the last several months, I have officially decided to call it quits and wait until the games launch to say anything more about them.

I hope you continue to check 3DStination for any other news throughout the week. Be sure to visit on Friday and this weekend; I will be posting a lot about the new games, from my first impressions to launch trailers, review scores from across the Internet and my own full review.

Speaking of my Pokemon X & Y review, I am hoping to publish it by the end of the weekend. If I don’t find the time or I do not feel like I can produce a proper critique, it might take a little longer.

Pokemon X & Y – Two More New Pokemon Revealed

Pokemon X Y - Spritzee Swirlix EvolutionsThe image you see to the right (click for full size) was taken from a Japanese magazine and confirms the evolved forms of Spritzee and Swirlix, two new Pokemon in Pokemon X & Pokemon Y.

No official details have been confirmed about these Pokemon at this point, but it is clear that they are the evolved forms of the two previously-revealed creatures.

What do you think? I’m not particularly thrilled about Sprizee or Swirlix, but at least their evolved forms look a little more powerful.

Pokemon X Y - Mega Charizard X Y

Pokemon X & Y – Meet Mega Charizard X & Y

There was previously a Mega Evolution revealed for fan-favorite Pokemon Charizard, set to appear in the upcoming Pokemon X & Pokemon Y. It was confirmed today that Mega Charizard will actually take two different forms, one exclusive to Pokemon X, and one for Pokemon Y - just as Mega Mewtwo can.

You can see the newly-announced Mega Charizard X (the black-and-blue-colored one) in the image above. Remember, Mega Charizard Y (previously revealed) is still Fire/Flying-type. Mega Charizard X also has the ability Tough Claws, which powers up physical attacks. Check out this trailer featuring both Mega Charizard forms:

Thoughts? I really like Mega Charizard X, but will be getting Pokemon Y, so I won’t be able to enjoy his new Fire/Dragon-type combo…bummer.

Pokemon X Y - Doublade Banner

Pokemon X & Y – Doublade Revealed via Facebook

Another reveal was planned today for Pokemon X & Pokemon Y on the games’ official Facebook page; now we finally know what becomes of the brand-new Steel/Ghost-type sword Pokemon, Honedge – it evolves into Doublade, seen in the image above.

According to the Facebook page:

“The evolved form of Honedge has been revealed! Meet Doublade! This Steel- and Ghost-type Pokémon is capable of carrying out intricate attacks by telepathically coordinating its two blades to deliver twice the slice in battle.”

What do you think of Doublade? Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of no-brainer evolutions with same-looking Pokemon; see Magneton, Dugtrio, etc. However, I’m still a big fan of Honedge, so Doublade shouldn’t be too shabby – the Ghost/Steel combo is still an interesting idea. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how Doublade turns out when the games release on October 12.

Pokemon X Y - Pokemon Bank Banner

Pokemon X & Y – Pokemon Bank Launching in December, Not Launch Day

Pokemon series director Junichi Masuda and designer Hironobu Yoshida were recently interviewed about Pokemon X & Pokemon Y by NintendoLife.com; one of the topics of conversation focused on the cloud-based Pokemon Bank application that was revealed earlier this month.

Pokemon Bank will allow players to store and transfer thousands of their Pokemon from previous games (Black/White, Black 2/White 2, etc.) to Pokemon X & Y; the online service also gives users a free trial month before asking for an annual charge ($5).

Though it was never truly set in stone, many assumed that Pokemon Bank would launch alongside X & Y in October; Masuda and Yoshida have revealed that this will not be the case - Pokemon Bank will go live sometime in December.

The Japanese release date has been set for December 25; there is still no word on North America or Europe, but I would bet on it before the end of the year.
